[MS & HS] Gale's Health & Wellness Resource Center => New Interface & Content

Hi,

Health and Wellness Resource Center (HWRC) is one of the databases available through the statewide contract with Gale, and it is featured on the Find Information page for secondary students on OSLIS. HWRC now has a new interface that is very similar to the user experience in the In Context products like Student Resources In Context (for HS) and Research In Context (for MS).

What's New?
As always, users are able to perform a basic and advanced search. Additionally, there are now topic pages divided into four portal categories: Diseases and Conditions; Drugs; Diagnostics and Tests; and Therapies, Treatments and Surgeries. A user can browse the list of all topic pages found at the top left of the homepage (Browse Topics), or they can click on View All within a specific portal to view the topic pages related to that category. See the screenshot of the new homepage below.

Also, users can now take advantage of features and tools available in other popular Gale digital resources, including a mobile responsive design, Google and Microsoft integration, citation tools, Readspeaker to have articles read aloud, language translation, Gale Bookmarks, and more. HWRC content is continuously updated, and the newest update includes 50 revised Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine entries on popular topics.

Webinars and Tutorials
Gale is offering several webinars in October for anyone who wants a guided tour of the new interface: 10/4 at 7 am Pacific, 10/11 at 7 am, and 10/24 at 11 am. Teachers and library staff can register for free by clicking on the calendar link and filling out the form. Skip the fields that ask for a Gale account number and a CSN. Soon an updated recorded webinar will be available to view at one's convenience, and soon the short on-demand tutorials will be updated.

Please share this information with science and health teachers and anyone else who may find it relevant.

If you have questions, please ask.

Thanks,
Jen
