Hi,
In response to the coronavirus situation, Gale has temporarily opened up several databases and resources to anyone to use for free. We already have access to most of the databases through our statewide contract. However, one product that is newly and temporarily available to us, and to anyone that does not already subscribe, is Miss Humblebee’s Academy. The resource is an “interactive kindergarten-readiness program that introduces children ages three to six to key concepts in math, science, social studies, language and literacy, art, and music.”
The access point is under Enhance Instruction on Gale’s COVID-19 Support page, and if prompted for a password, use “open” (no quotes). A parent or caregiver needs to create an account so there is a place to store materials. (Don’t want to give the child’s full name? Use a first name only, a nickname, etc.) Once logged in, check under Learn More for an FAQ and under Resources for video guides. Gale also has a fact sheet about the product.
In addition, Gale has temporarily opened up a small professional development collection of ebooks about virtual learning and a collection about pandemics, disease, and public health. The access point is under Learn How to Go Virtual on Gale’s COVID-19 Support page, and if prompted for a password, use “open” (no quotes).
FYI, I added the links for these temporarily-available products to the top of the OSLIS Find Information pages (elementary, secondary). You are welcome to copy the links from the Gale COVID-19 Support page or from OSLIS, and add them to your own library website or resource list.
Many vendors have opened up digital products during the coronavirus outbreak. The only reason I am singling out Gale is because we have a statewide contract with them. As noted in last Friday’s coronavirus email, this Google doc is being used to track resources related to closures, including lists of educational products that are temporarily free.
