Gale: Extra Webinar, On-site Training, OASL Conference

August 28, 2009

Hi,

There are three things I’d like to share with you.

1)  Kurt Stovall, our Gale trainer, has agreed to give one extra “Welcome to Gale” webinar.  It will be on Thursday, September 3rd from 4:00 to 5:00 pm.  There are still 3 sessions being offered on Monday, August 31st:  9:00 to 10:00, 10:30 to 11:30, and 3:30 to 4:30.  Interested teachers and administrators are welcome to participate in the webinars.

Kurt will introduce you to the 18 databases in our statewide package and explain the very basics of the interface.

·        Registration:  No need to register.

·        Equipment:  You need a computer with an Internet connection and a phone.  Cell phones are fine.

·        Instructions:  View or download a PDF with instructions here: http://www.galesupport.com/oregon/webinar.pdf.  Be sure to read it before joining a session as it provides some good tips for making sure your computer is webinar-ready.

·        Identify Your Library:  When logging in to the webinar, please use the space marked Company to identify your library.

 2)  Also, I’ve attached a tentative schedule for the on-site Gale trainings that will occur around the state in September, October, and November.  The dates are firm, but Kurt still needs to confirm his travel arrangements.  Please review the schedule and save the date that works best for you.  Once we hear from Kurt, we’ll send an announcement about how to register.  And, of course, if anything changes, we’ll announce it over the listservs.  If you did not receive the attachment, let me know.

3)  Finally, there will be a Gale session at the OASL conference on Friday, October 9th from 8:30 to 11:30.  The original plan was to spend half the time on OSLIS and the other half on the databases in a computer lab setting.  I’m willing to give more time to the Gale portion, and we will allow as many participants as the room accommodates.  Kurt is not available, so a different trainer is supposed to be here.  I will ask to have the conference page updated once I hear from that trainer.  http://www.oasl.info/conferences/2009/friday.htm

Thanks,
Jen
