School Library Conference: 1st Timer Scholarships & Article for Administrators

September 4, 2015

Hi,

About two weeks ago, I posted about the OASL Fall Conference for all school library staff. This year’s event is in Coos Bay on October 9th and 10th.

Judy Schachner of SkippyJon Jones fame is the featured author speaker on Friday; Dewey Bob is her new book that comes out this month. Oregon’s own William Ritter is Saturday’s featured author. Kirkus gave his book for teens, Jackaby, a starred review: “Ritter’s debut skillfully blends science with the supernatural and balances whimsy with violence. The smartly paced plot wraps up neatly, but the rich world of this debut demands sequels.” Well, conveniently, book #2, Beastly Bones, comes out later this month.

Yesterday the OASL Scholarship Chair posted this announcement to the OASL listserv. If you’ve never been to the conference before, here’s your chance to cover some costs. Applications are due September 19th.

Have you never attended OASL's Fall conference? OASL is offering three scholarships to attend the OASL Fall Conference. The scholarship is open to Oregon school library staff members, both certified and classified, who have never attended an OASL Fall conference. It includes conference registration, and a ticket to Saturday's Reception, at which scholarship recipients will be recognized.

Go to http://www.olaweb.org/oasl-first-timers-scholarships for more information and the application.

Also, there’s a conference article aimed at administrators in the September issue of the Oregon Department of Education newsletter, Education Update. Maybe you could use it to talk to your administrator about potentially using district professional development funds to attend. It’s on page 6.

I hope to see you at the conference.

Thanks,
Jen
